Free Legal aid for the needy-Call by Rashtriya Sewa Bharati
It is very sad that thousands of undertrials, who may be innocent unless proven, are languishing in our jails
throughout the country, for years together.
These undertrials without any
charges being framed are not in a position to get the bail, just because they
do not have anybody to offer the bail or their family members may not have
means to get bail or are not in a position to approach any advocates. Longer
the detention in jails they may become antisocial inside the jail or outside once
they are free.
Rashtriya Sewa Bharati sincerely request
the lawyer community to offer free legal aid to at least one undertrial a year
and make them good citizens of this country.
Here are the legal luminaries who
have offered free service to the needy as per the news reports in Economic
Times. Shall we expect them to pay little attention to the needy undertrials,
as a moral obligation?
We also request our 435 affiliated
organisations spread throughout the country to have a small survey in their area
and seek the help of local advocates.
