#chennai floods help - Sewa USA Delivers 150 Handmade Scarves and Blankets to Women’s Shelters



NOVEMBER 20, 2015 – On the occasion of Diwali – the Hindu festival of lights – Sewa USA delivered 150 hand-knit scarves and baby blankets to Chicago-based women’s shelters.

Sewa USA launched the Knit for Sewa drive in August. Sixty people from 15 states participated in the drive by knitting and mailing in their handmade items. Participants included knitting novices as well as experts and ranged from the ages of 10 to 75. In some families, mothers and grandmothers used this project as an opportunity to teach their children the art of knitting and crochet.
Indira Kathavate, from Chicago, said she enjoyed learning new patterns just for the sake of giving the best gift possible. Knit for Sewa provided an opportunity to practice a fun hobby while also helping someone in need.

#CHENNAI FLOODS - Updated Sevabharathi Chennai Flood Relief efforts

Volunteers from Seva Bharathi Tamil Nadu jumped into action and started relief activities in affected areas providing food (see table below), transporting people, providing counseling etc.

During the second phase of relief activity, volunteers engaged themselves in relief and rescue operations at various places of Chennai. Thousands of houses are marooned and the communication has come to a standstill. Of the 75 Sewa relief centers, 14 centers were designated as base centers. Food was prepared and distributed involving many volunteers and their families from these base centers.



Volunteers in co-ordination with NDRF and Armed personnel are helping in rescue operations in Mudhichur, Mannivakkam. More than 100,000 food packets/meals, nilavembu kashayam, and counseling was provided to the public including to 8 villages nearby Chromepet.

Known for their selfless work for any cause of the nation, Sevabharathi was in the forefront of carrying out relief for flood victims when a devastating natural calamity hit Chennai.

Clothes for the needy, shelter for the abandoned, milk for children and doctors to treat the ill, all were arranged and managed by RSS Sevabharathi.

These efforts did count much in bringing relief to a traumatized people.



Health Camps that Benefitted All Sections of the Society:-
Medical camps were organized at various places in Chennai to help the needy.

Hundreds of patients received the necessary healthcare through this medical camp, regardless of which caste, creed or religion they belonged too.  Muslims too attended the medical camp and thanked the RSS.  Local residents admired the efforts and dedication of volunteers.

SAKSHAM EIGHTH NATIONAL CONFERENCE, VIVEKANADA KENDRA, KANYAKUMARI:   27-29th November 2015

Because of the underlying concept is ‘AtmavatSarvabhutheshu’.(The same atman present in all), narsewa is done with the feeling of  Narayanseva”. This was the theme of Ma. Sahsarkaryavah Sri Krishnagopaljiudbodhan at SAKSHAM 8th National conference at Kanyakumari.

On 27th 10am, Dr. Milind Kasbekar, National President, Sri SuhasjiHiremat, AI SewaPramukh and Sri Gunwantsingh Kothari, AI Sah Sewa Pramukh inaugurated the conference by hoisting SAKSHAM flag.
