Empowering Organic Farmers in Karnataka

Savayava Krishi Parivar (SKP) is a federation of organic farmers in Sagara Taluk of Karnataka State.  This organization is formed by the motivation and guidance from Krishi Prayoga Pariwar (KPP).Savayava Krishi Parivar (SKP) is a federation of organic farmers in Sagara Taluk of Karnataka State.  This organization is formed by the motivation and guidance from Krishi Prayoga Pariwar (KPP). conducts various training programs for organizational development and training of trainers. 

During October 2013 SKP initiated a program called ‘Krishika - Grahaka Milana’ (Producer to Consumers Direct Meeting).   This program brought organic farmers and consumer together on a common platform where the farmers sell their organic products to consumer without the involvement of middlemen.  This has helped the farmers in realizing premium money for their produce and at the same time made poison free, quality food products available at a lower price to consumers.  Consumers know which farmer has grown the product that they have purchased.  The label has farmers’ name and contact telephone number besides name of the product, quantity and price.There are more than 100 different products marketed through this program. The program is conducted for two days in a month on either first or second Saturday and Sunday of the month.  The program is supported by Rashtrothana Parishat, Bangalore and Youth For Sewa, Bangalore. 

SKP has plans to hold this program regularly in different parts of Bangalore during the year 2014. The federation has quality checks and controls for farmers’ products. Any farmer who wishes to sell his/ her product should be part of this association.
